In 2002, ISEA expanded its mission to provide enhanced public understanding and stewardship of the Great Lakes and Global Freshwater.
ISEA is eager to share our expertise in freshwater education with others around the world who could benefit from a more water-literate populace (we think that is everyone).
According to the World Health Organization, the world is experiencing a water crisis:
One of every six persons on Earth faces a daily, life-threatening challenge: finding water fit to drink.
More than one billion people worldwide have no access to safe drinking water. That’s four times the U.S. population.
More than two and a half billion people worldwide have no access to adequate sanitation facilities.
More than eight thousand children die very day from illness linked to substandard water supply and waste disposal in poor countries. That’s nearly one child every 10 seconds of every hour of every day.
More than 80% of the world’s health problems are related to water.
